2012 New Testament-in-a-Year Reading Plan
When we spend time with God reading His Word, we grow in our relationship with Him. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (NIV).
Scripture also says that God’s Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), it accomplishes the purposes for which it was sent (Isaiah 55:11), and it always finishes the work it starts (Philippians 1:6). God repeatedly promises to grow us spiritually and draw us nearer to Him through His Word.
With these promises in mind, we offer this 2012 New Testament-in-a-Year Reading Plan. If followed all the way through, this plan will take you through the entire New Testament during the 2012 calendar year. The plan is straight forward: 22 readings per month with 3 reflection days mixed in. Each reading is one chapter, and the reflection days offer an opportunity to stop and think about what God has been speaking to you through His Word. The number of monthly readings is intentionally limited to 25 for a simple reason: to allow some wiggle room each month. You will have 5-6 flex days to either continue reflection, read ahead, and/ or catch up on missed readings. Also, on the back page you will find a few things you might find helpful for reflection and cultivating the daily habit of spending time in God’s Word.
A quick word of encouragement: if you’re like most of us, you’ll probably fall behind at some point. Don’t give up! You can use weekends, school breaks, and the extra flex days to catch up. Also, the goal of this plan is not to cause guilt for falling behind or pride over completion. It is designed to serve you. In the midst of our busy lives, this plan can help by providing a structured reading plan to guide your devotional life and establish a daily habit of reading your Bible.
We offer this plan to you humbly. God alone is the source of all spiritual growth, and He promises to use His Word to grow us. Our prayer is that this plan helps you spend more time with God and that He uses that time to draw you nearer to Himself.
We'd love for you to join us in reading the entire New Testament in 2012!
